Tom brought kindness, joy, and mirth to the newsroom. Kindness, joy, and mirth? Those are not words I would use to describe most editors on deadline. Tom consistently wrote columns that were compassionate, smart, and interesting. Tom's columns were a fixture at the Star because of Tom's stellar storytelling skills. I am so sorry for your loss, Patty, John, Joe and Emmet. What I remember most about Roy (sorry, that's how I remember him) is his quick wit, great sense of humor and keen intelligence. We were all very close as children, living across the alley from each other in Morgan Park and I don't think there was a day where we weren't at the Houlihan house or he at ours. I remember fondly those days.
