Not sure what to say?

May you Rest In Peace I’ll never forget the 1968 NFL Championship against Cleveland when #41 ran for three TDs; avenging the Colt loss to the Browns during the 1964 Championship game. Although from Connecticut, I was an ardent NFL fan and like most expected and wanted the ‘68 Colts to beat the NY JetsTom Matte still holds the Super Bowl record for most rushing yards per carryover 50 yrs later! One of our favorite Colts and truly a first class NFL competitor.

To the family, many, many friends, and fans of this great person who played running back with the Baltimore Colts. Mr. Tom Matte was a running back with the Baltimore Colts in the 1960s and ‘70s known for his brief stint replacing quarterback Johnny Unitas (1933–2002). He had a wonderful career in the sport of football. May you find comfort in your wealth of fond memories together with Mr. Tom Matte. May the God of comfort bless your grieving hearts with strength, loving kindness and peace as...

Godspeed to a fellow
shaw High Cardinal! You were our hero through Shaw High, Ohio State and Baltimore. And lord please look after
Judy during this most trying time!!

Tom Matte epitomized Baltimore like all the great Baltimore Colts and
Orioles. He was a huge supporter of the Ravens when they arrived and immediately caused them to be accepted by Baltimore fans. I loved his sense of humor during his radio broadcasts. He will be greatly missed.

I was just a kid a kid watching Tom quarterback the Colts to near victory for the championship in Green Bay that year. It’s a game no one in Baltimore will ever forget. Rest in peace Tom, #41. Bernie Dlugokeski
