I had the greatest privilege of having Tom as my middle school band director at Westlawn in the late '70's. Two of my children also had the same great privilege of having him as their band director at Challenger Middle School. It is a small world, and in this small world there are a few undeniably talented, gifted, and honestly genuine people. Tom was one such person; my family has been blessed to have been touched by him, not once, but twice. My sympathies, thoughts, and prayers are with...

I want to express my sympathies to Mr. Mitchell's entire family. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful person and a great teacher. He had a way of "polishing" each of us until we shined. He had a passion for what he did and taught us to have the same passions. Challenger Middle School wouldn't have been the same for me. I'll never forget when he told me that I couldn't play the instrument I wanted to and recommended that I play a different one. I was...

Mr. Mitchell was the band director to both of my daughters at Westlawn Middle School. He was such a wonderful teacher and much loved.
May God richly bless all of his family and friends and give them the strength that they need.

Mr. Mitchell had an ability to make a shy kid feel very proud of their accomplishments. He will be missed.

My thoughts go out to the family..
Mr Mitchell was a wonderful man and absolutely a GREAT teacher.
If it wasn't for him I wouldn't know as much as I do about music or love it as much as I do now if it wasn't for him..
My thoughts and prayers will be with the family as well as him.
Best of Luck to all!!

I remember when Tommy used to watch me when I was a little girl. God bless his soul. Because I have always been the wild child. He was so kind and patient to me because he loved my father. I am so blessed to have had such a wonderful spirited person enter my families life. He was a wonderful musician, a great friend and a proud father. I am writing for myself and for my mother, Patty Peebles, who also sends her prayers to the Mitchell family. I am so happy that Tommy had a beautiful life and...

Mr. Mitchell was a great man. I loved his life lessons and his words of wisdom. He has caused me to be the man I am today and to be able to have the future in the music world that I love and enjoy. We will truly miss him but I know he is with the one and only Risen LORD and there is not pain not one. My wife and I will continue to pray for you and your family. GOD BLESS you.
