Tom Towles, the mustached character actor who popped up in several of Rob Zombie's horror movies, has died.
Towles' spokeswoman Tammy Dupal said in a statement Monday that the actor who appeared in "House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects" died April 2 in Pinellas, Florida, from complications following a stroke.
"He was such a great guy, and I am so grateful that we got to work together several times," said Zombie in a statement. "He will be really missed."
Towles' memorable roles included a serial-killer sidekick in 1986's "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" and an obnoxious zombie apocalypse survivor in the 1990 remake of "Night of the Living Dead."
"Tom was a personal friend, a fantastic actor and a lovely man," said Towles' manager Tamela Ehlinger. "We worked together, we laughed and cried together. Not many fans knew the soft heart behind the tough exterior. Tom was one of a kind, never to be repeated."
His other film credits included Zombie's 2007 remake of "Halloween," "Grindhouse," "The Pit and the Pendulum" and director Michael Mann's "Miami Vice."
Towles' TV credits included "Seinfeld," "NYPD Blue," "L.A. Law," "ER," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Firefly."

Only just found out heartily sorry for his family and friends speaking only as a fan I enjoyed many of his movies and always found his portrayls entertaining and charismatic the type of characters you just couldn't ignore or overlook though of course I didn't know him personally I will continue to enjoy his work and the timeless enjoyment he has left for many of us

Working with Tom for just two weeks (more than 15 years ago; as part of an episodic production office) created this lifelong fan. I was simply checking in and am so very sad to discover he is gone. Smart; keen-eyed; wry - but still kind, and funny as hell. Will always be a lifelong fan.

Tom and I played volleyball in the mid 80's and hung out a bit after games. He had a great spirit and will be missed by all.

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of actor Tom Towles. I found out yesterday morning, while having breakfast in "Sparky's Diner"(on W. Oakton St. in Skokie, IL.), when my brother, Phil saw the obit in the Chicago SUN-Times". I 1st saw him in "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" & "MAD Dog & Glory"(which I was an "extra" in but not seen) both Dir. by John McNaughton(whom I met at set of "Mad Dog & Glory") & as Harry Cooper in the 1990 remake of "Night of The Living Dead", Dir.by Tom Savini.
