Clark O'Neal Funeral Home Inc. - South Bend CLOSED Obituary

Tony Shead, 51, of South Bend, Indiana departed this life on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Memorial Hospital. Tony was born on January 5, 1963 to the union of the late Shirley Sanders and James Shead in South Bend, Indiana.

He attended Riley High School, where he was an excellent basketball player. He was employed at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center for almost 29 years, where he was a maintenance mechanic. Tony was a dedicated and hard worker. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandpa. He gave his life to Christ and was baptized and saved. He was a member of New Generation Christian Ministries. On June 8, 2002, in South Bend, he was united in holy matrimony to Angela Shead.

Tony enjoyed spending time with his family; his hobbies included detailing and fixing cars, attending his son's games, riding his motorcycle and barbequing for his family (best ribs in town). He loved cracking jokes and making others smile. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandmother-in-law Lucille Davis. He loved to fish and eat with his family and friends. He would eat his own catch, and other people's catch too! His family and close friends called him "Hawk Eyes" and "Shead." Tony was regarded as a genuinely nice person and was kind to everyone he encountered. He will be dearly missed by his family, a host of very special in-laws, friends, coworkers, Circle of Life children, and all who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Angela Foster-Shead of South Bend, Indiana, whom he loved for 34 years; three daughters: Lacresha Caroll-Shead of Arlington, Texas, Queenisha Shead and Antonisha Shead, both of South Bend; and his only son, Tony Shead Jr. of Tifton, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Tavon Foster, A'knahgela Shead, A'mareon Shead, Calise Cutler, Cameron Blount, Rylan Marbra, and Angela Sanders; his older sister, Carmen Freeman; and oldest brother, Frank Sanders both of South Bend; a special cousin, Elder Steven B. Reynolds Sr.

Tony was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Sanders; father, James Shead; grandmother, Annie Harris; brother, Quentin [Adrienne] Freeman; sister, Jamie Shead-Gunn; aunt, Rosie Reynolds; uncle, Bobby Reynolds; nephew, Tyshawn Freeman; two nieces: Tamia Freeman and Rochelle Freeman; great-nephew, ShaVante Godwin; two special cousins: Kenneth Reynolds and Derrick Reynolds; and mother-in-law, Diane Foster.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tony Shead Memorial Fund at 1st Source Bank.

Public Visitation for Tony Shead will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

I worked with Tony at Osteopath and the old St Joe Mish. Ten years had passed when I found myself at the new St Joe with my father. When I ran into Tony he hugged me like no time had passed. He was such a sweet man with a calm soul. My heart is breaking for his family. Rest in peace old friend.
