Kathryn Joan Krimm McShane

Columbus - Kathryn Joan Krimm McShane left this world on December 26, 2015 at Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC. Born December 4, 1928 in Williamsport, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Mildred and Lawrence E. Krimm.

After graduating from Lycoming College, she enjoyed a career in radio and television. She wed Edward William McShane, Jr. in 1955. The couple made their home in Southwestern Pennsylvania and had four children they loved and parented with devotion and delight. After her husband's death, with their children grown, Joan began a successful career in real estate first in Nemacolin, Pa, then Rockville, Md, and then in Flat Rock, NC.

Joan was an avid golfer, loved the outdoors, and gave many hours to human-service organizations, most notably Easter Seals. Joan will be remembered by all who knew her as a fun-loving, beautiful and a gracious presence.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons, Lawrence Krimm McShane and Edward William McShane III; and her sister, Amy Krimm Devaney. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth McShane Brand (Peter Eisenbrown) of Saluda and Meridith Elliott Powell (Robert) of Asheville; her grandson, Cabell Keating Brand of Saluda; and her brother, Richard Wilkins Krimm of Annapolis, MD.

The family is deeply grateful for the care provided by the compassionate people at Tryon Estates, Care Partners Adult Day in Flat Rock, and Memory Care in Asheville.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel in Hendersonville with Father Basant Digal officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Joan McShane to Memory Care, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803. An online register book is available at www.thosshepherd.com. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center are in charge of arrangements.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Beth, Meredith and Cabell, I have such lovely memories of Joan, always gracious, always a lady, always enjoying a bourbon. It is sad that she is gone yet good that her passing was peaceful and with family.
