San Jose, California
Mar 7, 1940 – May 2, 2017
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Maria Elena Nicdao; his children, Jose, Noel, Michael and Sue Ellen, his siblings Lita, Tins, Tessie, Connie, Mick and Hermie, two grandchildren Migo and Gabby; and many close friends he considers as family.
Born and raised in Manila, the son of Mariano and Vicenta, he lived his early life in Manila where he attended his formative education at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City. He is fondly called Ninoy or Nick by his friends and Koya by his siblings, Manong or Mang Nick to his co-workers in San Jose, and Captain Nicdao to his airline peers.
Ninoy's career in aviation started at the Lipa Air Base Flying School. He trained as fighter pilot in Texas after flying school and went on to serve in the Philippine Air Force.
After serving with the Philippine Air Force, Nick started a family with Elena. His aviation career shifted from being an air force pilot to working as a commercial pilot with Pilipinas Air. He then moved on to being a private pilot for Canlubang, Ayala Zobel and Cojuanco.
With the future of the kids in mind, Nick migrated to the United States in 1984 in search of greener pastures. He gave up his career in aviation and began working in the semiconductor technology industry in Silicon Valley. Slowly, one by one, the family followed to the United States and set roots in San Jose.
He eventually retired at 65 and lived the rest of his life between Manila and San Jose.
