Funeral for Travis Russell Solley, 68, of Hartselle was Thursday, March 5, 2009, at 6 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kenneth Tyler and the Rev. Harold G. Hermetz officiating. Visitation followed from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be today, March 6, 2009, in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Solley, who passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, was born Feb. 16, 1941, in Cullman County to Doug and Clara Harper Solley. Travis began his career as a civil engineer with Rust Engineering. In 1972, he joined his brother as vice president and co-owner of Solley Construction, where he worked until he retired in December 2000 due to health reasons. He continued to enjoy eight more years of life due to God guiding the hands of his doctors, Dr. George Hansberry, Dr. James Boyle and Dr. Jeffrey Johnson, and the compassionate care given to him by his caregivers, Margie, Rose, and especially, April.
He was born and raised in The Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Shelby Leigeber Solley; three children, Bengie Solley, Tammie Russell and Melodie Smith; three stepchildren, Cynthia Southers, Tara Holmes and Shane Austin; two sisters, Doris Chapman and Joyce Johnson; one brother, Ray Solley; eight grandchildren, Sawyer Solley, Skyler Solley, Saylor Solley, Dana Dietz, Darby Dockery, Mollie Russell, Savannah Russell and Jenna Russell; four stepgrandchildren, Dylan Southers, Trevor Southers, Grant Holmes and Addison Holmes; and two great-grandchildren, Ellis Dockery and Georgia Humphrey.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Sawyer Solley, Skyler Solley and Saylor Solley, and Dr. James Boyle, Bobby McCutcheon, Dallas Southers and Shawn Holmes.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or to the Decatur General Hospital Respiratory Department.

I am sorry that I did not know of the passing of Travis until late Thursday evening. I will always cherish the memories of Travis, We worked together for the Solley Nursery as teenagers and young adults. We attened Faiview HS Together, attened curch at Gradiflora Church of christ, doubled date and many more thngs than there is room to write. I will never "THE LONG TALL SOLLEY"
