MOORESBORO- Truman Robert "Shorty" Farmer, 84, of Wood Road, Mooresboro, died on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on Sept. 23, 1929, a son of the late Beeler Farmer and Vena Bell Farmer. He was retired from the Hamrick Mills and was a U.S. Army veteran and served with the Combat Engineers. He was a Korean War veteran. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He loved the outdoors, racing and bluegrass music.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Garnett Farmer and Dewey Farmer; three sisters, Beatrice Jackson, Vernette Ellis and Cathleen Farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Mae McCraw Farmer; one son, Mickey McCraw of the home; one daughter, Tammy Ruppe and husband Tim of Gaffney, S.C.; one brother, Jack Farmer and wife Mildred of Gaffney; one sister, Doris Mills and husband Britton of Gaffney; and one granddaughter, Cayci Ruppe of Gaffney.
A celebration of Mr. Farmer's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Prospect Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the U.S. Army.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Rutherford County Honor Guard, 564 Terry Rd., Ellenboro, NC 28040.
