On Sunday morning, March 13, 2011, God called Mr. Tyrone A. Nelson Sr. into eternal rest and peace.

Known by friends and family as "Flub," Tyrone was born Sept. 18, 1942, to the late Gladys Nelson Dixon and the late William "Sundicka" Roney. Tyrone was reared by his maternal grandparents, the late Violet H. and the late Edmund Clark. Tyrone's paternal grandparents were the late Samuel Roney (Margaret) and Beatrice Roney.

Tyrone was a graduate of Southside High School, Dinwiddie, Va., class of 1961. He was employed by Central State Hospital, Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. and Famous Foods of Virginia. Tyrone loved sports and music. During his employment at Brown and Williamson, he was on the softball team and served as head coach of the basketball team. As a young child, Tyrone confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior. As a young member of Mount Level, he sang in the Junior Choir, under the direction of the late Catherine Simmons. He was a member of Club Char-Les-Manze for a number of years, where he served as the club's business manager.

Tyrone loved the Lord with all his heart. Every chance that he got, he thanked the Lord for bringing him through all life's tests and trials. Through his life, family and friends were able to see that God is able and can do all things but fail.

Tyrone A. Nelson Sr. leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, Tyrone A. Nelson Jr. (Sandra), Eric Nelson, both of Philadelphia, and Stefan A. Nelson (Cynthia) of Ettrick, Va.; devoted grandson Tyrone A. Nelson,III of Philadelphia; three granddaughters, Olivia, Adrienne and Terressa of Ettrick, Va.; five brothers, Donald Roney (Claudia) of Amelia, Va., Clarence "Butch" Roney (Vera) of Richmond, Va., Kim Dixon (Brenda) of Petersburg, Va., Adam Dixon (Angela) of Dinwiddie, Va., Christopher Dixon (Contrella) of Terrell, Texas; one sister, Linda Moore (Tracey) of Petersburg, Va.; five uncles, John Thomas Roney, Floyd Roney (Nancy), Dorsey "Ticker" Mason, Jessie Blackwell and Henry Pegram; five aunts, Ezlen Roney, Marcella Faulcon, Rose Roney, Vernell Roney, Gwen Roney and Gloria Byrd; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In Tyrone's life there were many people who played a significant part in his life, including his beloved cousin, Jacquelyn S. Reynolds, Donnie Pride, James Jackson, William Curry, Mable Turner, Martha Montgomery, Betty Hammond, Arnita Jordan, the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. John Coleman, and the Good News Baptist Church family.

Homegoing service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Mt. Level Baptist Church, 14920 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie, Va.; Rev. Bernard Coleman, pastor. The interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, at the funeral establishment.

To all my cousins, Ty will be missed and I am sorry that I was unable to attend his homegoing service it. Only God pick those that have completed their task on earth and God reward them with well deserve rest. Will miss him and those crazy tall tails he loved to tell. Until we meet again.
