Terry Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia Obituary

On Sunday, April 24, 2016, God called home one of his precious servants, leaving a void in our lives that can only be healed by His Love… TYRONE S. WARD, son of Carol Smith, was born on January 6, 1965, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a child, Tyrone attended the Philadelphia public school system. While at Overbrook, he met Eric Ward who became his mentor and a great influence and provided Tyrone with a great business sense and groomed him for the career world. Tyrone, affectionately known as "Ty", changed his last name to Ward for the love and admiration he had for Eric Ward and graduated from Overbrook High School in 1983. Tyrone's infectious grin, enthusiasm and sense of humor drew others toward him. You could always count on him for help. No matter how big or small, Ty would find a resolution to your problem. Tyrone proudly served his country by serving in the Army. For a few years, Ty left Philadelphia and moved to Florida. Upon his return, he worked at various agencies. One of his notable jobs was when he worked for Senator Anthony Williams, Jr. as Chief of Staff. While working for the Senator, Ty met his best friend, Darnell Deans. People around Tyrone knew he was intelligent and had a meticulous eye for detail, that would help him further in his career. Before you knew it, Tyrone was working for the City of Philadelphia with the Rise Program as a Senior Case Manager under Bill Hart. During this time, he graduated from the University of Phoenix with his B. S. in Criminal Justice and continued to strive for the best. He leaves to cherish in loving memory: his loving wife, Derry; his children, MeKenzie, Mezel, Jewel, Joshua, Nadia, Gabrielle and Tyrone Jr.; two stepchildren, James and the late Jack (D); three granddaughters and one grandson that preceded him in death; his mother, Carol; stepfather, Bill; brothers, Terry and Aaron; sisters, Terina and Dinah; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Not sure what to say?

So sad Tyrone how's your son and wife

My condolences to the Ward family. I and the Ward family (Ty, his wife and his first 3 children) were members of the same church in Frankfurt, Germany (Frankfurt Church of God in Christ) for a few years in the early 90's. He was an awesome church brother to me and others. We stayed in contact after we both returned stateside, but lost contact of each other other over the years. Since he has been on my mind on and off for quite some time, I looked him today and found this awful...

Losing you still hurts I miss you with every bone in my body I pray that you continue to watch over me dad I need you more than ever these days there is not a day that goes by that I dont miss you or cry for your absence you will forever be a great father I love you

Derry, I am in total loss of words today as I am writing you this message, Life takes sudden turns and we can hardly react to time, we have to give in, Sorry to hear about your husband's sudden death, May God give you that strength To endure this situation, and you emerge strong with time. Keeping you and the boys in my prayers. Love, Cuz Lisa & Family
