Ulf Grenander

Ulf and I worked on a mathematical model for predicting the movements of organized groups of birds when he was at Brown. We published the paper in 1991, and it has been cited thousands of times, and started new industries. Ulf was a genius, but that's not the way I remember him. He was a hell of a nice guy, fun, and wonderful to work with. He is missed in many quarters.

I was privileged to work with Ulf in the late 80's. Not only was he blindingly bright, he was sweet and funny. Science will miss him.
