Ulku Bates

I remember Ulku with great affection. I was fortunate to have studied with her for my master's degree in Islamic art in the early 1980s. In addition to her wealth of knowledge, she possessed great humility and generosity. She was an incredible person with a special gift for mentoring her students. I am so grateful and blessed to have known Ulku. I will always remember her big smile and her even bigger heart.

I truly enjoyed spending time with Ulku and getting to know this brilliant and fascinating woman! She was a treasure.
