I was reading an alumni magazine from Adelphi (I am Class of '75), and saw that Val had retired. Then a few pages later, she was listed as deceased. I was so sad- I wanted to try to contact her and tell her how she had influenced my career. Val got me involved in student government and the College's Academic Affairs Committee, where I was active for 3 years. I subsequently received a Masters in Counseling- College Student Development, & have gone on to 18 years in the Financial Aid field,...

Dear Family of Val Hodge,
It was with deep saddness that I learned of the untimely death of Val Hodge. I had the honor and priviledge of working with her during my tenure as Chief of Police of the Borough of Stroudsburg Police Department. Val was an incredible human being. Efficient, no nonsense, compassionate, firm and always friendly. Working together, we rid the Borough of some out of control fraternities. She was a champion of her students and a great individual. Everyone...

I am truly shocked. Hearing this news has made me very sad. Although I was not close to Val in my days at Adelphi "class of 74", I was involved in the academics standards committe and the Admissions office during my first couple of years on campus which put me in circles that she traveled. I learned to respect and admire her ability to communicate with people regardless of the background. I often saw her take the high road when conflict presented itself. It has made me happy to hear that she...

I too am in shock that my friend, mentor, and confidant is gone. Val is such a part of my ESU experience that it is just unfathomable to me that she won't be there when I visit. Like so many others, she encouraged my mind, heart, and soul and made me a better person. I have devoted my career to student development because of her. While I feel a deep sadness, I know that I am so lucky to have known her and have many fond memories of time we spent together. She will be with me always and I am...

I truly couldn't believe the reality of her passing until I attended the memorial service on Friday night. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to hear so many speak of her in a way that connected me again to the wonderful memories I have.
Thanks to Dean Hodge (as I knew her in '88) I became a servant leader, a Student Affairs professional, and a serious humanitarian. Not to mention learning how to shape my opinions and passions in a way that would help others see their strengths....
