Not sure what to say?

I met Val when she was Executive Director of the Leadership Alliance at Brown University. When I was graduating from my doctoral program and did not know my next steps, Val hired me, and in my short time of working under her leadership, I learned important lessons about the academy, about leadership, and how to conduct yourself with grace and strength. She is greatly missed, and I am so thankful to have known such a wonderful and giving person.

I am so sad to learn of Val's passing. So sad for the missed confidences of the years since and sad that I lost touch with her after Brown. She was a sister, a role model, a loved friend. I did not know of her illness and feel that was the only thing that could keep her down. Val was so soft yet so strong. Rest in peace, my friend, and see you some fine day!

Valerie, I cannot express the cloud of sadness that enveloped me upon discovering your obituary. I had so many more questions to ask, so many more laughs to share. You have made an indelible mark on my heart. I am heartbroken. Sincerely, Danielle GraySingh

She was my big sister. A true role model and someone willing to uplift you and give sound advice. I will always remember her kindness towards my family.

RIP. Gone but never forgotten.

I met Valeria at NIH when she came
on campus looking for the Grants Office. After explaining to her where
this office was I asked her why are
seeking out this office,? Them I told
her about research opportunities at NIH, invited her to my office
When she left the campus she had a position with Bob Martin in The Lab
of Molecular Biology. We be came friends
Over the years when she was seeking other experiences I got her
interviews such as HSA position...

Still in shock and deeply saddened by the news of Valerie passing.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.
I will hold onto the happy memories that I have shared with her my second mom and my little brothers Daniel & Craig. I am honored and blessed to have known her. She was truly a wonderful and gentle soul and will forever remain in my heart.

Please accept our deepest sympathy and condolences. Your family will be in our prayers.

My heart is saddened to know that Val passed away. I was on my way to funeral services but unforseen circumstances prevented me from attending. My prayers are with you all. I will never forget the hospitality shown to me while Vance attended Brown. Val was such a role model for all of us. She will be missed.
