Aberdeen: The memorial service for Vaughn L. Bierman, 64, of Aberdeen will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors by Sidney L. Smith Legion Post No. 24. Vaughn died from a stroke Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital at Aberdeen. Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Vaughn Leslie Bierman was born June 22, 1946, to Oscar and Elsie (Ghylin) Bierman in Aberdeen, S.D. He grew up in Chelsea, S.D., and attended and graduated high school in Northville, S.D. Vaughn was married to Karen Walker from 1968 to 1991. Two children were added to this union.

Vaughn served six years in the Army National Guard 147th Battalion of Redfield, S.D.

He was self employed in recycling scrap metal before illness caused an early retirement in November 2006. Vaughn loved baseball, hunting and fishing and above all, his grandchildren.

Grateful for sharing Vaughn's life are daughter Laurie (Dan) Hanisch of Brandon, S.D.; son Chad (Sandra) Bierman of Aberdeen; brother Gaylen (Bonnie) Bierman of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; sister Lois M. Abel of Aberdeen; brother Lloyd M. Bierman of Aberdeen; former spouse Karen Buss of Aberdeen; and five grandchildren, Mitch, Hailey and Brooke Hanisch and Sidney and McKenzie Bierman.

Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Joshua Ryan Abel.
