Veda Mae Shockey, 71, of Independence, MO, passed away February 2, 2010. Veda was born April 18, 1938 in Sleeper, Missouri, the daughter of Leonard R. and Ora Belle (Hubbard) Wood. She was a keypunch operator and a payroll clerk at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1993. She was a loving wife, mother, and nanny. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Charles F. Shockey of the home, 3 daughters, Katherine Swayne and husband Ronald of Indep., MO, Christine McPherson of Indep., MO, Kimberly Mautino and husband Larry of Oak Grove, MO, 8 Grandchildren and 2 Great-grandsons, 3 sisters, Ruth Hickman and Dorothy Hessenflow of Indep., MO, Mary Windsor of Trenton, MO and 1 brother, Francis Wood of Trenton, MO. Veda will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends and her cat, Molly Mae. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Animals Best Friends, P.O.Box 493, Independence, MO 64051. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 6, 2010 at New Salem Funeral Home. Burial in New Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, February 5 at New Salem chapel. I will never forget coming over to Aunt Veda's with Mom Hessenflow and Aunt Veda had made a peach cobbler, it was one of the best cobblers i have ever ate in my life. You will be sadly missed Aunt Veda we love you and will miss you. Love Kenny and Fran Hessenflow
