Velma Evans Obituary
Velma is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert Evans of Seaside; seven children: Tim Evans and Rhonda Mercadal Espinosa of Salinas, Mark, Craig, Dale and Chris Evans of Seaside and Lynn Johnson of Monterey. Also, she is survived by 20 grandchildren and sisters, Bernice Crowe, Barbara Ashley and brother, Frank Niblett.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 from 4:00-8:00pm at Bayside Community Mortuary, 1610 Noche Buena Street, Seaside. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00am, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Carpenter House, 1309 Broadway Avenue, Seaside followed by graveside services at Cementerio el Encinal in Monterey. The Evans family, extended family and friends, I come to learn today of you loss of Mrs. Evans. The last time Mrs. Evans and I talked we were in Marshalls a year ago. Even then, she was reminding me to call her Velma , I told her I'm old school, she said with a smile "I know Gene"then said with concern " Gene, how are you doing?",we exchanged conversation for about thirty minutes, and in it she expressed how thankful and grateful she is of her family.
After leaving Marshalls , and reflecting on our conversation, and the peaceful spirit Velma (Mrs. Evans) has..it was meant to be for her and I to meet at Marshalls that day and talk, and now I see why.
There are generations of women like Mrs. Evens that came up when there were no civil rights laws and the baggage that went along with it, women who works and deeds with family, community and made it better.

So sorry to hear of Velma's passing..,. she was such a wonderful person/ classmate to my dad Vince Ruccello and mom Yvonne Ruccello, They always spoke highly of her! She was so supportive when my mom was sick with cancer! I will never forget her love and wonderful blessing she sent when my mom was in her final stages!
