Venancio "Johnson" Duque, 71, of Scotch Plains, died on Monday, July 31, 2017. The Funeral will be on Friday, August 4, 2017 from the Rossi Funeral Home, 1937 Westfield Ave. Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 at 9am. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10am at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church, Scotch Plains. The Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. The Visitation will be on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the funeral home from 5-8pm.
Venancio was born and raised in Quezon City, PHL. He lived in Baguio City, PHL., where he raised his family. He came to the United States in 1983, settling to Scotch Plains. He was a Colonel for 28yrs. for the Philippines National Police, before retiring in 1992. He graduated from the Philippines Military Academy in 1968. He took great pride in the Academy and considered it a "brotherhood". Venancio went on to receive his Masters for National Defense from the National Defense College of the Philippines and his MBA from the University of Philippines. Johnson loved his grandchildren unconditionally and considered them his true hobby. He enjoyed golfing and traveling. He was a Sharp-Shooter for the Philippines in the South Eastern Asian Games. Lastly, Johnson loved eating food and all types, he enjoyed trying new food when ever possible.
Venancio is survived by his wife of 48yrs. Lourdes; his son Vincent (Mia); his three daughters Lee Ticas, Katrina Cordero (Bobby), Patty Gutierrez (Jose); his eight grandchildren Alex, Michael, Rheanna, Alyssa, Jonathan, Jasmine, Julian, Christian; two brothers Jesse and Dan; and five sisters Anne, Cecille, Jane, Boots, Carol.
