I remember Dad taking us on summer road trips back to the Minnesota homestead where he grew up about 15 miles from the Canadian border. To make the most of limited vacation time, Dad and Mom would often drive through the night while Nancy and I slept in the back seat. For the first trip back, Dad had taken some wood and turned the back of the ‘41 Chevy into a wall-to-wall bed for Nancy and I to use for play and sleep. Those were the days before seat belts.
