Vera Jean Christensen, 42, died peacefully during her sleep on the morning of December 3, 2011 at Chelsea Place Care Center, Hartford, Connecticut. Ms. Christensen was born May 12, 1969 in Milwaukie, Oregon to Eva Lorraine Rogers Christensen and James Christensen, Jr. At a very early age, she began capturing life through photography. She was passionate for the Arts; singing, dancing, writing poetry and reading cherished literary works. A Guilford High School graduate, Ms. Christensen believed that every individual has an intended purpose, and hers was to help others help themselves. She once wrote, "Life begins when one realizes that the self is capable of accepting love and trust from people who care." Living half of her life with a debilitating mental illness, Ms. Christensen was strong in faith, charismatic and brave. She is survived by her beloved sister, Linda Ruth Christensen. Special thanks to the many caregivers and staff at Chelsea Place Care Center and Masonicare Partners Home Health and Hospice; too many to list individually. A private memorial will be held at Chelsea Place Care Center for residents and staff. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Chelsea Place Care Center Recreation Fund, 25 Lorraine Street, Hartford, CT 06105. Condolences may be sent to P.O. Box 63, Moodus, CT 06469.
