Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

Vera Henrietta Buitron Barrera passed away in Houston, TX, on August 7, 2016. Born on December 16, 1928 in Laredo, TX to Pablo and Severa Martinez Buitron. She was married to the late Carlos Barrera, Sr. They would eventually move to San Antonio in 1951.  Together, with her husband, she raised three boys, Carlos Barrera, Jr, Michael Barr, and Hugo Barrera, in the home they settled into in Highland Hills.

Once her boys had grown, Vera went on to work for JC Penney and then eventually as a teacher’s aide for the San Antonio Independent School District, from which she retired. Vera stayed active throughout her life, whether it was hosting bunco parties, venturing out to casino’s with her friends, or volunteering at her church through the Altar Society for St. Margaret Mary’s. She is survived by her 3 sons; 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Not sure what to say?

To our dear friend Charlie, his siblings and the entire Barrera family.
We extend our most sincere and personal condolences for passing of this wonderful lady. Although we only had the pleasure of being with Vera a couple of times, she was so memorable as a kind and gentle woman with a quiet dignity. We know she will remain in your hearts for ever.

I'm sorry to hear the loss of a beautiful woman inside and out. She was s long time neighbor and I'll always remember her fondly. Prayers to the family.
