Not sure what to say?

Five years in The Lord's presence my friend! We miss your smiling face here but hope to meet you at the gate when we're called. I pray Doris Ann is well.

Doris Ann, I was so sorry when my brother Ed told me this sad news. I considered Vern to be one of those true friends who would lend a hand where needed in the old car hobby. I always loved his pre-banquet prayers especially when you consider he was usually recruited at the last minute. Always enjoyed our conversations which, in retrospect, were too few. I'll be looking for him when my turn comes. God bless.

Doris,
I was stunned and saddened to just hear of Vern's passing in our church bulletin. I had no idea he had cancer. He and Herb spent many happy hours together. I will greatly miss seeing him at our church in Monroe. My deepest sympathy, Lonnie

Vern came to People's Presbyterian just as I turned 12 and was ready to take the training required to take Communion. From that point through my graduation from High School, Vern was a mentor and friend. He helped me grow up and mature and deal with the struggles I had with my parents throughout that period. Years later Vern and Doris Ann officiated at my parents memorial services in Milan and graveside in Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. I am indebted to Vern for his love and friendship as...

May the faithful departed Rest in Peace and rise in Glory. My condolences. I have one of Vern's fine carborators on my Maxwell. I enjoyed having another clergyman as a collector and mentor.

Vern treated me with great kindness as I developed an interest in old Maxwell automobiles and joined the registry that he maintained. A year later, when I purchased an '08 LC, a rare model similar to one that he owned, he was a great resource to me in getting the car roadworthy. We had many great phone conversations. I was very much looking forward to sharing the road with Vern and Doris' LC on the New London to New Brighton tour this year. Sadly, Vern's illness prevented that. I wish I had...

Vern at the Orphan Car Show, Ypsilanti 2013

My heart goes out to Doris and all those who loved Vern. He has been an important part of the McMullen family since he performed his first service for our family - my Grandmother McMullen's funeral - his first as the new pastor at People's Presbyterian Church in Milan. I remember him driving my Grandmother Butler in parades in his amazingly and lovingly restored old car. He was a man who touched so many lives in so many ways. His wit and mastery of language will always be with those of us...

You helped me through losing my grandpa when I was little and you were there again last year when I lost my grandma.
Thank you for not just serving god, but serving your congregation also.
Rest in peace!
