Family welcomes visitors on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 10:00 am until time of service 10:30 am at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 2294 Old Washington Rd., Waldorf, MD. Interment following at Heritage Cemetery, Waldorf.

Verna "Pat" Braxton was born on May 5, 1944, in Washington, DC to the late John Hall and Rose M. Hall. She grew up attending church with her mother and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Our beloved Pat transitioned suddenly on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

Pat was a hard worker and dedicated employee throughout her 38 years of federal service with the U.S. Department of Education (hereinafter ED), formerly known as the National Institute of Education. She worked in the first Human Resources (hereafter HR) office at ED. As a HR specialist, she helped shape the policies and processes used to develop and maintain operations. Pat became an expert in personnel recruitment and management, which enabled her to help advance the careers of a countless number of employees. She was an invaluable member of the Human Resources Operations Team and created a wonderful family-friendly working environment. Pat's co-workers appreciated her genuine nature and honest character, and the years of association and relationships with her co-workers continued long after her retirement.

Pat absolutely loved her family and friends. She was always giving wholeheartedly to others, which was one of her many special qualities. If Pat had it, and you needed it; it was all yours! She was a faithful member of Prince Georges County's Tots and Teens program for a number of years, and throughout her lifetime, she worked several part-time jobs to support her family. Pat was a gentle spirit with a great sense of humor.

Pat loved to cook and catered many family functions. Everyone loved her amazing home cooked meals. She was as an award-winning baker amongst her family and friends, and her specialty dessert was a pineapple coconut cake. One of Pat's other favorite things to do was to travel to Roanoke, VA and visit with her family. She also loved to vacation and go on cruises with her family and good girlfriends. Pat enjoyed spending time with those she loved and would talk on the phone for hours, which is something we are all going to miss about her.

A few years after her retirement, Pat moved to Raleigh, North Carolina and enjoyed the country life, until she moved back to the DMV in August 2018. She was a strong and resilient woman who always pushed through life's challenges without complaining. Pat was truly one of a kind!

Her parents, John and Rose Hall, and her sister Lillian Brown precede Pat in death. Pat leaves to cherish in her memory, three sons: Terry Braxton, Nicolle "Cokie" Braxton, and Damon Braxton (Tiffany). Seven grandchildren: Nicole Braxton-Wells (Alfonso), Brandon Braxton, Damon Braxton, Damone Braxton, Nickayla Bailey, Damari Braxton, and Tiara Braxton. Four great-grandchildren: Zoey Wells, Nala Bailey, Nova Braxton, and Zamari Wells. Bonus daughter Tammy Morton, special sisters, Annie Hall, and Debbie Preston (Tony), and special friends Edith "Aunt Dee" Henderson, Essie Shorter, Olivia DeWitt, and Louis Polk; along with a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.

Not sure what to say?

My deepest and sincerest sympathy to the Braxton Family. I met Pat 40+ years ago in SE Washington thru a long time friend of hers. We also lived next to each other when we moved to Raleigh. Pat is now among the angels looking over all of you. Knowing Pat she would not have it any other way.

I knew Verna as "Gramma Pat". She is my grandson Damon's grandmother. To me, she was a kind and gentle lady, with a loving heart. May she rest in Eternal Peace. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends.
