WARSAW — Mrs. Vernell Abernethy Stevens, the widow of Judge Henry L. Stevens III, died in Snow Hill, N.C. on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 at the age of 84.

We are truly sorry for your loss. We will miss Ms. Vernell during our visits to the nursing home while visiting my mom/grand mom. When we would speak to her Carmen would say "hey grandma". Ms. Vernell would reply, "hey baby" and would begin talking with us.
She was a sweet lady and will be missed.

So sorry I didn't learn of Vernell's passing until too late to attend the service. She was a very special lady and I loved her from the minute Henry married her. She was the best teacher I ever had. She even helped my younger son when he was in college. You have my deepest sympathy.
