DRAKE, VERNON J.
Of Burton

Age 72, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Avalon Hospice, surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor James and Robbi Shumaker officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 12 noon Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Vernon was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 7, 1939, the son of the late Dale and Virginia Drake. Vernon was employed by General Motors Truck and Bus for many years. He enjoyed helping others. He was a devoted volunteer at Balloon Quest for several years and performed as a clown with several circuses. He enjoyed skydiving, spending time with his friends and family and making people laugh. Vernon is survived by Ann Drake; 6 children, Lisa (Brian) Schuman, Julie (Barry) Peel, Kelly (Eugene) Luxton, Dana Drake, Vernon (Becky) Drake and Delia (Jim) Vecellio; 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brother, David Vannest; sister-in-law, Marcy Hatcher; several nieces, nephews and special friends, Tim (Tammy) Asbury, Mark Perez, Ralph Houghtaling, Karl Loper and Kay Loper.
