General James was my grandfather. He was a fantastic leader and even better "Pappy". It touches me to read all of your kind words. He touched many lives and will be missed dearly by all those with whom he came in contact with.

My sincere condolences and prayers to family and friends of LT. General Vernon E. James. I am forever grateful for the time I spent in your command. Your service and sacrifices will not be forgotten. You are a "TRUE AMERICAN HERO". May you Forever Rest in Peace.

General James was a friend and colleague of mine for many years as it was my privilege to serve with him in the 28th Infantry Division. To his family I extended my sympathies and condolences on their loss. May God's grace aid you in your mourning.
