Profile of Life
On Sunday, June 11, 2006 at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland, Veronica Sarah Gray Blair departed this life for one eternal.
Pete, as she was more affectionately known, was the oldest child of the late John Archie Gray and the late Ella Louise Thomas Gray. She was born on January 9, 1932 in Marbury, Maryland and attended Charles County Public Schools after which she moved to Washington, D.C. and then to New York to pursue a career.
Pete enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to cook and was famous for her bread and rice pudding and cucumber, onion and vinegar salad. She also liked to play cards and her favorite game was “High, Low, Four Jacks and the Game.” Pete also enjoyed the occasional “sip” from her favorite labels and dancing. She also had a very distinguishable walk where friends and family could recognize her coming from miles away.
Pete was the mother to three girls, JoAnn Jamieson, Kay Hamilton and Treshone Gray-Mackey. She met and married her friend, Blaine Blair, who preceded her in death in January of 1992.
In addition to her parents and husband, Pete was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Gray and brother, James Gray.
Left to cherish fond memories are her three daughters, “adopted daughter,” Agnes Williams Neal, nine grandchildren, Tracy Chesley, Henry, Rita, Jerome and Kevin Jamieson, Johari and NaTasha Hamilton, Dashone and Vashone Muse, twelve great-grandchildren, Chesney, Julian, Tyler and Alexis Jamieson, Anthony Swann, Ashley and Kendra Harley, Kayla and Jonathan Chesley, Kaylin, Ras and Jazzi Hamilton, three sons-in-law, Henry Jamieson, Rufus Hamilton and William Mackey, five sisters, Betty Johnson, Tillie M. Lee, Lorraine Boyce, Ruth “Cuppie” Gross and Grace Bivens, four brothers, John “Sonny”, Richard “Dickey”, Austin “Bunny” and Leonard “Len” Gray, mother-in-law, Bernice Blair, a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family and Friends will be received on Thursday, June 15, 2006, 6:00 pm until time of Memorial Service, 7:00 pm at Thornton Funeral Home Chapel, 3439 Livingston Road, (State Route #227) Pomonkey, Maryland. Interment will be on Friday, June 16, 2006, 10:00 am at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, Maryland.
