Veronica Turowski

I/we Walshes grew up next door to the McDevitts. Veronica was older, but we kidded around a lot with each other way back there on Gibson Place. She had a great sense of humor. Her Dad used to sweep the sidewalk all the time with his big industrial broom. I told her once that her father walked by me but I didn´t recognize him without the broom. Then she told me she didn´t either! I called her many years ago on her birthday which I remembered was a few days after mine. I wouldn´t tell her who...

I never questioned that Mrs. T had a deep, positive impact on me as a teacher, but I did not realize the degree until a few days ago. She found that perfect balance in style between "old school" and knowing who her students were and what they needed. She could humble you in an instant when necessary (and boy did 8th-grade me need it) but also inspire you to believe in yourself and chase excellence the next moment. She could have made millions if she had developed in her voice a "WAKE UP!"...
