Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Inc. - Gretna Obituary

Vicky Neal Adams, 80, of Gretna died on Thursday, July 17 at Carilion Memorial Hospital in Roanoke following a traffic accident.

She was a graduate of Climax High School (1963), Danville Memorial School of Nursing (1966), and had a BS degree in Nursing from the University of Virginia (1984).

Vicky had a long and successful career in many areas of nursing, from family practice to the operating room. She is fondly remembered in the community for her years of patient care at Gretna Family Practice. She loved her job and she loved her patients.

She also worked for many years as the weekend plant nurse at Goodyear Tire and Rubber.

Vicky always had a great work ethic and worked very hard to educate her children. She was a firm believer in the value of education and stressed this to her children and grandchildren.  Even after retirement, she continued her selfless care by taking care of others. Her grandchildren remember her as a wonderful grandmother, not only to them, but to other children in the community that needed her. She loved babies, especially the King children and Wren Fulper.

She is survived by two children, Amanda Adams Lovett (Shayne) and Mark Jason Adams (Jennifer) both of Lynchburg, her sister, Gayle Deel (Jimmy) and two brothers, Tom Jones (Kathy) of Gretna, and Rex Neal (Patricia) of Gretna.

She is also survived by three grandchildren who were the love of her life, Emily Browne-Price (Nick), Graysen Adams, and Isabelle Adams of Lynchburg. They choose to cherish her memory by living in a compassionate and caring way as she always taught them.

She was a member of the Gretna Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. One of her most enjoyable experiences was traveling to the island of Curaçao in 1985 to help in constructing a Kingdom Hall. She made friends there that she had to this day.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 20 from 2pm to 6pm at the Shields Family Farm that she loved, located at 3143 Old Mine Road, Gretna.

A Private burial will be held at the Bryant-Shields Family Cemetery.

Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.colbertmoran.com.

Not sure what to say?

I am sorry to hear of Vicky's passing, she and I worked 3-11pm, in the Operating Room for several years.

So sorry for your loss, I worked with Vicky for a number of years in the operating room at Lynchburg General Hospital, she was a wonderful nurse and coworker, she had a great sense of humor.
She was always talking about her children and and grandchildren

May sincere condolences to the Adams Family, I met Vicky some years ago at Gretna Medical Center, we worked together she was intelligent, smart, knowledgeable, and was a big help in learning in the medical fiield. She will be missed. Praying for comfort and strength for her family.

So sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. The Gravley and Toliver family.

Vicky (or as we call her Gicky as a mixture of grandma and Vicky) was not our grandma but she was like one to us and more people. She used to give me fresh blueberries from her garden and they were the best I had ever had every time. I will always remember her. She had taken care of us since I was baby. I have always loved her since I can remember. I can’t wait to see her again in the paradise.

Vickie was a fierce protector, She lived her life on her terms. I know she will be missed by her children and grandchildren and sister as well as friends. She is safe in Jehovah's memory along with Minnie and Dave. What a day that will be.

Rest in peace Vicky. We are assured our lord will continue to bless and keep your sweet soul. Sympathy to her family and friends who will passionately miss her here on earth.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. My Deepest and Heartfelt Sympathy to all of the Family.

Amanda, so sorry for your loss.
