DORR, Victor O'Gorman, 85, of Richmond, died peacefully on January 21, 2011. A retired journalist who worked for than 40 years with Richmond News Leader, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane; two children, son Victor Jr. and wife, Jean, of Midlothian and daughter, Jackie Flesher and husband, Rusty, of Stuarts Draft, Va.; a sister, Sister Maria Rosa Dorr of Emmitsburg, Md.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A decorated veteran of World War II, he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross and an Air Medal while serving as a B-29 crew member in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Mr. Dorr was born in Blackville, S.C. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1950 and moved to Richmond thereafter. His duties at the News Leader evolved from those of a copy editor to creation, design and production of the Green Section, the News Leader's weekly television/entertainment supplement. Named for the green paper upon which it was originally printed, the Green Section became one of the News Leader's most popular features. Mr. Dorr's devotion to his alma mater's football team was passionate. His commitment to his church, St. Bridget Roman Catholic Church in Richmond, was profound. He served his church in several capacities, among them lector, mentor for adults new to Catholicism and scoutmaster of Saint Bridget's boy scout troop. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Bridget Roman Catholic Church, 6006 Three Chopt Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Bridget or the Notre Dame Annual Fund, 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, Ind. 46556.

Mary Jane, You know well the value and importance of special life-long friends. You, Vic and family are among the most special to all of the Caravati family....going back more than 50 years.

Vic, with you, leaves a wonderful legacy as represented by your children, grandchildren and many, many friends. Certainly Vic is, now, in a better place while you are blessed to enjoy your family and friends.

Visiting Richmond these days without seeing you is no longer a visit to...

Mary Jane, Vic & Jeannie, Jackie & Rusty,
We are so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. He was such a kind and gentle man that made our family feel totally at home in your home. We will miss his giving spirit and gentle laugh. What wonderful memories our family has of many a gathering of our families. Love & prayers to all of you...

My family and I moved away from Richmond in 1970 when my brother and I graduated from Benedictine High School. After school, I settled in San Francisco but when I am asked where did I grow up, I say "Richmond".

Some of my strongest and happiest recollections are of growing up in Richmond and the Dorr Family figure in many of them. Vic Sr, was my Scoutmaster. I hung out at their family home during grade school and high school; quite a few kids did. I saw Mr. Dorr as a great...
