There would be days at The Mug where Victor would come in and instantly make the room bright. And those were the days when there were no clouds and the sun was shining high. Malia's Mug was our clubhouse, the place where we would go back to and hang out, after working a 12 hour shift at Malia's Mug. And he was a Club Member. Conversations with him would range from Mozart and Geopolitical Social conditions, to how business markets paralleled evolutionary biology dealing with extinction theories; and have the other patrons listening in asking themselves, "What kind of place is this?" More than anything to me he was a good friend and that is a very rare thing. Dosvidania Moi Druk. See you on the other side.

Please allow me to express my deepest sorrow for Victor and present my condolences to the whole family.

Extracts from my farewell letter to Victor:

The thing about life is that you meet thousands of people, but there are only really a handful you really connect with, only a handful that make a difference to you, that impress and mark you by their originality and uniqueness, who leave a trace on you and contribute in forming who you are and will be. For me, you were unquestionably one of them. You were a true source of inspiration for me and I hope to ever be even half the guy you were. You are one of the best fund managers the world has known and it is our common passion for the stock market that brought us together. ... At first in our initial conversations, I was looking to uncover your secrets at being such a good investor and learn as much as I could from you. However, behind the talent, I discovered an amazing guy, who was not just a great investor, but a fantastic human being, who I'm proud to have had as a friend. I don't have many friends, and counting you as one of them was an enormous privilege for me.
I will miss so dearly our daily conversations. The times we had talking about investments were truly insightful, but most importantly, the best discussions were really just about the simple things in life...
I will always remember your very distinct laugh... I will always remember your wit, your common sense, your clarity of thought, your great sense of humor, the quality of your writing, and the power of your independent thinking.

The only thing I can do now is thank you for all that you have taught me. You will be truly missed and always be remembered.

Your Gallic Friend

Raquel, I was so shocked and sorry to hear today of Victor's passing - it is just hard for me to grasp. I was a friend of his at GMT and we spent time talking about history and languages, etc. I was so impressed with Victor's breadth and depth of knowledge - he was a true Renaissance man. If I were still in Atlanta, I would attend his services. Please accept my very deepest sympathy. Rest in peace, Victor; you will be remembered.

You always think that you will get a chance to see old friends that you shared so many good times with when you were younger.
