Victor Monsour Jr., 62, passed away on December 3, 2017 in Lake Charles. He was born in Shreveport, La. on June 18, 1955 and his family moved to Lake Charles in 1959. A graduate of LaGrange High School, he finished his prerequisites at McNeese State University and enrolled in Brooks Institute of Photographic Arts and Science in Santa Barbara, Ca. Victor graduated at the top of his class in December of 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional Photography.
He opened Monsour’s Photography in 1980 in Lake Charles where he provided award-winning photographic service. His rare talent and gift of capturing moments that celebrate life live on through his artistry. Many of his photographs are so iconic that they have become familiar scenes to many in Southwest Louisiana.
An avid outdoorsman, Victor enjoyed the outdoors, whether it be hunting, fishing, birding, gardening or wildlife viewing. He often said southwest Louisiana had the most beautiful sunsets and loved photographing local waterways, flora, and fauna throughout the state. His infectious love for life, positivity, and thirst for adventure will be remembered.
Victor was involved in the Lake Charles Advertising Federation, the CEO Club, Ducks Unlimited, and the Left Field Rotary Club. He volunteered with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries banding ducks and photographing nesting alligators. He was a member of Maplewood First Baptist Church.
Victor received a 2015 Tourism Lifetime Service Award from the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau and the 2015 Artist of the Year for the Mayor’s Arts Awards.
Victor retired in 2015 having provided 35 years of photographic service to the community. He continued his passion for photography in his retirement, particularly his love for the outdoors and his grandchildren. He was able to use his diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s as a platform to raise support and awareness for the disease.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Victor Monsour and Billie Rae Weeks Monsour.
He is survived by his wife Tamara Crumpler Monsour; daughter, Megan Monsour Hartman and husband Matt of Carlyss; son, Blake Monsour and wife Candice Sonnier Monsour of Iowa; daughter, Reagan Monsour LeBoeuf and husband Aaron of Carlyss; grandsons, Banks Hartman, Jack LeBoeuf and Luke Mitchell; granddaughters, Lakelyn Hartman, Kennedy and Aliyah Monsour; and sister, Vicki “Lisa” Monsour and husband Greg Richard.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the compassionate and caring staff of Stonebridge Place Assisted Living, The Guardian, Brighton Bridge Hospice and the numerous friends and family members who lovingly provided support and assistance.
Celebration of Victor’s life will be at 12:00 PM Friday, December 08, 2017 at Sale Street Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Brother Randy Edwards will officiate. Friends and family will gather in his honor Thursday, December 07, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Sale Street Baptist Church and again Friday from 10:00 AM until the start of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue Ste 700, New York, NY 10001.

Victor was my employer from 1989 to 1992. I so enjoyed my time at the old studio on Broad Street. It was a part of my youth I'll never forget.
