VICTOR WRIGHT Obituary

WRIGHT--Victor R. (1945-2022) It is with great sadness that we share with you the news that Victor R. Wright, beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle, great-uncle and friend died peacefully in his sleep in his home in Harrison, NY on December 17, 2022. Victor was the youngest of ten sons, born in the Bronx in 1945 to parents, Nicholas and Lucy. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joann, and two daughters, Jennifer and Samantha, both of New York City. A proud Bronx native and life-long Yankees fan, he became an accomplished Wall Street trader and executive, and passionate philanthropist. He had a tireless work ethic, commitment to excellence, and unparalleled devotion to his family and friends. He began working on Wall Street when he was 17, and joined Goldman Sachs in 1969 as an over-the-counter trader in the Trading and Arbitrage Division, becoming partner in 1984. He ran the equities trading desk in London from 1988-90, then returned to New York to assume overall responsibilities for NASDAQ equities and to manage the international equities trading desk. He retired as an Advisory Director in 2003 after 34 years with the firm. Throughout the course of his career on Wall Street, Victor served on many committees in the securities regulatory area. He was on the NASD board of governors. He also chaired NASDAQ's Stock Market Trading Committee, Educational Foundation, and National Listing and Hearing Review Committee. He dedicated the last 25 years of his life to public service and philanthropy in several areas that were of personal importance to him. He served on the Board of Directors of Rye Country Day School and Georgetown University, which both his daughters attended. In 1995, he co-founded the Georgetown Wall Street Alliance -- a mentoring and scholarship organization which has provided tuition for over 100 students since its inception. He was a board member and treasurer of the Muscular Dystrophy Association for almost thirty years. He served as Chairman of the Board of St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx -- a public hospital in the neighborhood he grew up in - from 1997 until his death. Victor was an important mentor and role model to so many in their lives and careers whether they were from the Bronx, Wall Street, Georgetown or elsewhere. His legacy will live on in the values he instilled in the many family members, friends and colleagues who sought his advice. The wake will be held at Frank E. Campbell Funeral home at 1076 Madison Avenue, on Wednesday, 21 December 2-4pm and 6-8pm, and Thursday, 22 December, 12-2pm and 4-7pm. A funeral mass will be held at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola at 980 Park Avenue on Friday 23 December at 10am, with a burial afterwards at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, or the Muscular Dystrophy Association -- two organizations of which he was a passionate, active and devoted supporter: St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx https://cng.frontstream.com/ CNGSBHHS/Pledge Muscular Dystrophy Association mda.org/victorwright

I knew Victor when he was an OTC trader at Goldman in the late seventies and eighties. We did business personally and over the phone in those days. We were a small firm and I was 24, but he treated me like my 2000 share order was just as important as the 100,000 share orders he was doing. He was a true gentleman. May he rest in peace.
