Hodges, Victoria
91 years young, passed into the presence of our Lord on Sept. 7. She is now with her beloved husband Claude who went before her. Victoria came to Arizona from New Mexico where she was born Victoria Smith in the small town of Garrita, and was raised by her Grandmother. As a teenager she lived with her father, who was employed at the Dobson Ranch near Chandler, Arizona. Her mother having passed shortly after her birth. Being a determined young woman, she entered the nursing program at the Arizona State Hospital and graduated in the late 1940s. She was very proud of her profession. Later at the Hospital Victoria learned to operate the Hospital switchboard and became a PBX operator. She was employed there for over 40 years. In retirement she enjoyed gardening and became known as the lady who could grow anything. A gentle and caring person, she could be counted on to be the first to help. Victoria, in her spare time, was a whiz at knitting and leaves many newborns with their first blanket. Victoria is survived by her sons, Doland and Johann, Grandchildren Shelly, Michael, Brian, Kerri, Neal, Travis and Christopher. Great grandchildren Emma, Riley and Cody, and one on the way! The measure of a person is that the world is less without them. Her passing leaves a great void in our hearts. Arrangements are with Tempe Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be on Friday 09-12-14 10:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 E. Libra Dr. Tempe Arizona internment will follow immediately at Tempe Buttes Cemetery
