92, of Bow, NH died Saturday (12/30) at CRVNA Hospice House. Mr. McCarthy was born July 30, 1914 and attended Boston Schools. Mr. McCarthy served in the Navy from 1942-1946 and received his officers commission in 1945. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1974. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from BU. In 1947 he entered government service once again as a Special Agent in the federal Bureau of Investigation, beginning a 30 year, distinguished career that would see him stationed in Seattle, WA, San Francisco, CA, Galveston, TX, Boston, MA, Washington, DC, San Antonio, TX and Butte, MT where he retired as Assistant Special Agent in charge of the Montana/Idaho division. Upon retirement from the FBI, Mr. McCarthy and his family returned to New England settling in Bow, NH where he formed his own business as a licensed private investigator. Mr. McCarthy was a member of the Society of Former Agents of the FBI and past Chairman of the Northern New England Chapter. He was a member of the Concord Rotary Club, past president of the Butte, MT Rotary and Paul Harris Fellow. He was a Life member of the 100 Club and the Brotherhood of the Elks and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Katherine (Tillson) McCarthy; 3 sons, James McCarthy and his wife Paula, Kevin McCarthy and his wife Nicole, and Dennis McCarthy and his wife Elizabeth; his grandchildren, Meghan, Emily, Danielle, William, Noelle, Samantha, Nicholas and Taylor. He was predeceased by his son Daniel Christopher McCarthy and his sister, Dorothy Kelley. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday (1/3) from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main Street, Concord, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday (1/4) at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 South Main St, Concord, NH. The Reverend George Desjardins will be the celebrant. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to the CRVNA Hospice House, PO Box 1797 Concord, NH 03302-1797
