Viola Ashdown Obituary
Des Moines
Viola Ashdown, 87, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at McLaren's Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Vi was born May 6, 1928 in Commerce, IA to Von and Bessie (Squires) Robertson. She volunteered at the Delaware Fire Department, Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center and helped with voter registration. Vi liked to collect porcelain dolls.
Vi is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Peters of Altoona and Rhonda (Bill) Jeffcott of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Stacy (Chris) Kingery of Runnells and Tiffany (Todd) Wheeler of Altoona; two great-grandchildren, Payton and Gavin; sister, Virginia Overton; and brother, Harold "Ronnie" Robertson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalbert D. Ashdown; son, Randy Ashdown; and siblings, Laura Nichols, Thelma "Guy" Wright, Pearl Hockett, Wanda Overton, Vaughn Robertson, Jr., and Lavern "Sissy" Lamb.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at McLaren's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to Prairie Vista Village or UnityPoint Hospice.

Mom,it is a puzzle to me what life will be without you. I had to find out when Dad passed and now your gone. I love and miss you and Dad so very much. You two have shown me what a close,fun loving family is and I will never forget. At least I know you are in good company,Dad,Randy,your siblings and friends. Free of pain. Keep smiling Mom. I love you!

Dear Rhonda,
I'm so sorry to read about the passing of your mother. I know what a void a parent's passing can leave. She is free from her physical confinement now & reunited with your dad. May God comfort you in this time of sorrow.
I'm glad we were able to re-connect again at Prairie Vista Village. It had been a long time. I'll be thinking of you in the days ahead Rhonda. Take care!

Dear Cheryl, Rhonda, Mike, Bill, Stacy, Tiffany, Chris, Todd, Payton & Gavin,
To my dear, sweet and loving Iowa family. Can't believe it has been a week since we were in Iowa and laid Biddy to rest next to Dalbert. Oh how I miss the two of them. In many ways all of you, and the two of them, were my second family - home away from home. I know it has been 32 years now since I moved to MN and that they were getting up there in age, however it is so hard to let them go - but I know they are in the right place, with the Lord and together.
I can only imagine how Biddy's loss is to all of you especially you Cheryl and Rhonda. I know the grand-kids and great grand-kids were extremely close as well. Such a wonderful, smiling, gentle and loving person she was and a very sweet soul. Yes, she will be missed and although I will be down to visit again and soon, it will never quite be the same or passing their home on Broadway.
Love to all of you and my heart goes out to you. Sending lots of love and prayers for you as you transition through their things, the home, and the loss.
