Viola Mae Gresham

Viola Mae Gresham, aged 93, was called to her heavenly home on October 30, 2025. She passed away peacefully at her home in DeValls Bluff, Arkansas. Born on July 07, 1932, on a farm located north of Moro, she was the beloved daughter of Raymond and Minnie Mae Sanford.

Vi attended Brinkley Public School, graduating in 1951. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Northern Montana College, where she earned her BSE, and later to UCA in Conway for her MSE. Her passion for teaching was evident in her career of educating elementary school children, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many in her community. She held her students close to her heart, often referring to them as “my 3rd grader” or “my little 1st grader”, demonstrating her enduring affection for them.

On October 9, 1965, Vi married the love of her life, June Gresham. They lived in various cities as June served in the Marines and worked in construction, eventually settling in DeValls Bluff where they remained.

Vi's faith was an integral part of her life. She began her spiritual journey at the First Assembly in Brinkley and through the years has remained a devoted member of the DeValls Bluff First Baptist Church. As a woman of faith, Vi loved her bible and dedicated her life to supporting missions, and bringing others closer to Christ. She served as the church clerk for many years and was responsible for the church bulletins and newsletters. Her teaching skills extended to Sunday School where she found joy in sharing her faith with the Senior Adult class.

Vi's community spirit was evident in her volunteering at voting polls and county fairs, as well as her membership in the Federated Women's Club. She also served as the President of the Arkansas Retired Teachers in Prairie County. Vi had several different hobbies and interests but was well known for her needle work and beautiful oil paintings.

Vi's life was a testament to her strong faith, her dedication to education, and her love for her family and community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched and the lives she enriched.

Viola was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 50 years, June Gresham, and her parents, along with her siblings, Clifford, Paul, and Virginia. She is survived by her sister Duretha Loewer, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory
