Virgie P. Mitchell

MITCHELL, Virgie P., 90, of Emporia, widow of Joe C. Mitchell, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009. She is survived by one daughter, Jean Bennett and husband, Earl, of Emporia; three sons, Joe Mitchell and wife, Alice, of Enid, Okla., Wayne Mitchell and wife, Angelyn, and Hersheal Mitchell and wife, Cathy, all of Emporia; grandchildren, Steve Mitchell and wife, Christie, of Emporia, Denna Glover and husband, Brian, of Littleton, N.C., Sandy Webb and husband, David, of Emporia, Morry Mitchell and wife, Ann Tucker, of Midlothian, Lani Mitchell and fianc‚, Ronnie Johnson, of Greensboro, N.C., Christina Rassi and husband, Kenny, of Allen, Texas, Alicia Mitchell of California and Doug Bennett and fianc‚e, Wanda Moore, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two brothers and seven sisters. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Road, in Jarratt. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Gasburg Rescue Squad.
