Virgil Snyder Virgil Ray Snyder, 95, of Fairmont, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society of Barbour County in Belington, WV. He was born in Preston County on July 7, 1919, a son of the late Charles Wesley and Lillian Frances (Johnson) Snyder. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Emma Jane (Riggins) Snyder on July 15, 2013. At an early age, Virgil became an expert horseman. He started driving a truck at 12 years old and delivered coal for his father's small coal mine. He then worked for Sharon Steel in Fairmont for 23 years. He was a longtime resident of Watson. He is survived by his son, Robin Snyder and his wife Evelyn of Moatsville, two grandchildren, Allen Snyder of Fairmont and Chrystal Snyder of Fairmont, two great grandchildren, Maya Snyder and Brady Snyder as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Snyder and Charles Snyder and a sister, Pearl Haught. Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. Fairmont on Monday from 5-8 pm and Tuesday from 11 am – 1 pm. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 1 pm with Pastor Ray Crabtree officiating. Interment will follow at Bridgeport Cemetery in Bridgeport.
