VATICAN CITY (AP) - An Italian cardinal who once was in charge of the physical upkeep of St. Peter's Basilica and was a former master of pontifical ceremonies has died at the age of 89.
Vatican Radio says Cardinal Virgilio Noe died on Sunday in Rome.
Noe was a retired prelate in charge of the basilica and formerly ran the office that cares for the Vatican's artistic and monumental treasures besides St. Peter's.
He was elevated to cardinal's rank in 1991 by the late Pope John Paul II.
In 1970, during Paul VI's papacy, he was named master of pontifical ceremonies.

My condolences goes to the Noe Family. Yopur friends and family can find comfort at Isiah 25:8. This scripture tells us that God will swallow up death forever. May this comfort you'all in your time of distress.

I had the opportunity to meet Cardinal Noe, many years ago and he was as down to earth as any prelate could be. He was straight forward and never had any problem going to the very top to discuss management of the treasures. Over the past few years his health became an issue, but he always prayed and could hold a conversation. May his soul rest in peace and may the doors of heaven open to him.
