Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

Virginia Munoz Cano, 91 years old, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on 21 March 2025.

She was born the 8th of 9 children into a family with little means of support. They survived by following the harvests, picking crops from Texas to Michigan. Although she was too young to pick crops, she sang songs for the other workers for spare change. She continued her love of music, singing in church choirs as well as accompanying Mariachis whenever possible.

She worked in a variety of jobs, from gift wrapper at the old Joske’s department store, to office manager for oil companies, to her true calling, helping those in need. She worked in the neighborhood she grew up in at The House of Neighborly Service at the Divine Redeemer Presbyterian Church, helping find resources for those who needed it the most. She then worked for the Boy’s Club of America in the West side of San Antonio, helping provide a safe place for kids to stay after school. Before retiring, she worked at the Bexar County Jail in the Detention Ministry Services Department, providing support to prisoners.

She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9186 and served as the District 20 Cancer and Research Chairperson. She was a two time breast cancer survivor and an active fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

She will be remembered for her love of God, love for her family, and love for life.

She is survived by her children, Elaine Moczygemba, Josie Poirier (Richard), Richard Moczygemba, and Elizabeth Moczygemba, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her life partner, Mr Juan Zamora of Alice, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Moczygemba, and her daughter-in-law, Monica Moczygemba. The family would like to thank her friend and longtime caregiver, Margarita Martinez, for her loving care.

A Memorial Service will be held on 4 April 2025 at 2:00pm, at the Divine Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 407 N. Calaveras St, San Antonio.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The House of Neighborly Service, https://www.hnstoday.org/donate.  A private ceremony will be held at a later date to scatter her ashes.

A  Memorial Reception will be held after the service at 4:00 pm, at the VFW Hall, 3111 Commercial Ave, San Antonio.
