Virginia Duran Garcia, aka Ginger/Gingerbread/Gin/or Kina, age 92, a Texas born and bred San Antonio “Remember the Alamo!” native. She was born on March 31, 1932 (3/31/32 or 3+3+3+1+2=12: 12, in Hebrew, it signifies God’s perfect government or divine order.)
She caught a late night (red-eye) out of town flight to be with God the Father, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the rest of the Duran & Dominguez family who had checked out before her Sunday, June 30th, 2024 departure.
Ginger was a key punch operator and supervisor at the (KAFB) Kelly Air Force Base Special Weapons department. Virginia retired from civil service at KAFB on Dec. 31st, 1972.
Ginger was one of and in the Top 1% tier of the San Antonio Spurs’ basketball team’s loyal, die-hard, fan group. She rarely missed a game, and never got discouraged if they lost a game. Go Spurs!!
She missed out being a lifetime shareholder in the Anheuser-Busch Bud Light Company, but that didn’t stop her from making contributions! She enjoyed listening to YouTube videos of Pastor William (Bill) Samuel Winston, a former U.S. Air Force Top-Gun pilot. He’s an American televangelist, preacher, author, and entrepreneur who founded and is the Senior Pastor of the Living Word Christian Center, a non-denominational church in Forest Park, Illinois, with over 22,000 members.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Pedro Duran – de los Reyes Sr. & his wife, Dionicia Duran – Aguero Sanches. Her maternal grandparents were C. Florencio Dominguez & his wife, Cleofas Alonzo – Cantu. Her parents were Jose Duran – Aguero and Maria Gregoria Duran – Dominguez. Her departed siblings were Pedro Duran II, Delia Garza - Duran, Joe Duran Jr., and Dolores Davila - Duran.
She is survived by her two children: Michael A. Duran (Oralia Mendez) and Sandra J. Torres (‘the late’ Leroy). Other family members include 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 dogs and a cat; and of course 2 loving, younger, sisters named Dora Arciniega - Duran and Anna Maria Reyna - Duran.
