Groton - Virginia V. Jaques, 90, formerly of Governor's Circle in Groton, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Groton Regency.

She was born on Jan. 20, 1919, in Stonington, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (McDermott) Paul.

She had been married to John J. Jaques, who passed away on Dec. 29, 1971.

During World War II, Virginia worked as an outside machinist at Electric Boat Co., in Groton and for several years had served as a waitress at Sully's Café in Groton.

Her survivors include three daughters, Eleanor McCarthy of Waterford, Susan Edwards of Groton, Diane Jaques of Colorado; a son, David Jaques of North Stonington; a sister, Dorothy Hargrove of Groton; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Harriet Burns, and six sons, Charles, Ronald, Albert, Robert, Richard, and John Jaques.

Funeral service will held at 11 a.m. this morning, Friday, at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Her burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New London. There will be a visiting hour from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

I will always remember Virginia's kindness,gentleness and consideration. She was a wonderful woman and I am grateful that I got to meet her through Ken and his family.

My Grandma was the best person i know.. she was always there for everyone and everyone knew and respected her. She's going to be greatly missed, But i know in my heart she's in a better place.
