LIGON, Virginia Vincent was born on May 2, 1922 in Skippers, Virginia. Virginia lost both her parents at a very young age. She was raised by her sisters and was always extremely grateful for their love and caring. Upon his returning from service in WWII, she married Marvin Leonard Ligon. They had a long and happy marriage until Marvin passed away April, 1998. She was a loving mother to her only child, Jeffrey Lynn Ligon. Lynn later married Martha Stuart Keedwell. Virginia looked upon Martha "Toolie" as the daughter she never had. In Virginia's later years it was Toolie that was always there as her primary caregiver, and a special bond developed between the two. In 1983, a daughter, Catherine Benton Ligon was born to Lynn and Toolie. She was loved by her grandparents and they spoiled her rotten. Whenever she asked for anything from them she received it, resulting in Lynn stating on numerous occasions, who are these people? In 1989, a grandson was born, Jeffrey Leonard Ligon, and he likewise was spoiled rotten by his loving grandparents. Lynn stating as we talked, there are two things my mother truly loved; her grandchildren and a Coca Cola in the morning. He said from a young age her breakfast consisted of a morning Coca Cola and that practice continued hroughout her life. After the passing of her beloved husband, Virginia, due to declining health, moved from her home on Oak Hill Drive in Emporia to an assisted living facility. As her health declined further, she lived in a series of nursing homes until she passed away on March 27, 2010. Virginia is also survived by a brother-in-law, Jeffrey Kenny Ligon Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. God give her peace. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emporia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Monumental United Methodist Church, 300 Southampton Street, Emporia, Va. 23847. Echols Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Not sure what to say?

Lynn, I'm so glad you told me the story about your Mother & "the morning beverage" at SunTrust. Maybe God has that on the menu for her in Heaven??? She must have been a wonderful Mother to you!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Virginia was a wonderful lady.

God is certainly getting a beautiful Angel.

"Gina" was a loving and giving person. She was like a second mother to me growing up. I will have so many fond memories that our families shared. My thoughts and prayers are with Lynn and his family.
