Virginia T. Madden, nee Cagney, age 97, longtime of Oak Park, passed away Jan. 19, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Frank J. Madden; beloved mother of Madonna (Daniel) Conway, Michael (Laura) Madden, Johanna Novotny, Mary Frances (Mike) Pokrzywinski, Padraic Madden and the late Terence Madden, Angela Madden and Kathleen (Bill) Stepan; proud grandmother of Terence Jr. and Julie Madden, Kaitlin (Rhys) Miles and Sean Conway, Michael Jr. and Quinn Madden, Thomas III, Christopher (Laura Mrkvicka), Matthew and the late Sarah Novotny; great-grandma of Emerick Novotny; dear sister of James (late Arelyn) Cagney and the late Joseph Philip Cagney, fond sister in-law of the late Dr. Robert (late Susan) Madden; beloved aunt of many.


Ginni was a lifelong Oak Parker, having gone to Ascension Catholic Grammar School, Trinity High School and Rosary College (Dominican University). She served as an elementary school teacher prior to her marriage to Frank. Ginni raised a large family in Oak Park, which was her most cherished position in life. She was an active parishioner and mother at St. Giles Parish, serving as a room mother, scout leader, and a substitute teacher. Ginni was a parent volunteer with the Ray Graham Association and the Jeanine Schultz Association, both organizations for persons with developmental disabilities. She also served as a support advocate for the Cook County Victim Witness Program. She was active later in life as a member of the St. Giles Senior Group and in various book clubs. Ginni also enjoyed making sleeping bags for the homeless. 


Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester on Sunday, January 25, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All to meet Monday at St. Giles Church, 1045 Columbian Ave., Oak Park for visitation from 9:00 a.m. until beginning of 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass (Please click here to watch live stream and recorded service). Sorry to hear about loss, Donna. Losing a prent is always hard.

Sending thoughts and prayers to the family. I met her a few times with Mary Frances at Loras and she was a lovely person and proud of her family.

She was a wonderful woman and caring mother. We had many memories of doing activities with our children together at St. Giles. May she Rest in Peace.
