Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

Murphy, Virginia Sherryl - of Flint, age 69, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at her residence alongside her beloved dog Max. Sherryl was born on November 13, 1952 in Sheffield, Alabama to Roscoe Murphy Jr. and Virginia Kathryn (Smith) Banks.

Sherryl was a beautiful soul. She will be remembered as loving, thoughtful and graciously listening endlessly to anyone. Sherryl had the most beautiful blue eyes and when she looked at you, you knew you were surrounded by loving company. She would go out of her way to help anyone in need. She had many passions; from sewing and gardening to cooking, but most importantly tending to her miniatures schnauzers that she bred for many years. She accomplished many things over her lifetime, however her greatest accomplishment was her daughter; Tonie. Sherryl devoted her life to raising her daughter and committed to making sure she had only the best growing up. She was a very hands-on mother; protective, engaging and loving without judgment. She was the kind of mother you could share anything with, knowing her love was unconditional. She worked tirelessly, alone, and when times weren’t easy, made sure her daughter never wanted for anything. Sherryl’s daughter would often say "I am who I am today because of my mother; she was my mother and my father all in one and I am so fortunate." Last week, Sherryl rejoined her heavenly family and gained her wings.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Tonie Wilemon, husband Rance Wilemon, grandson Jude Wilemon, granddaughter Rose Wilemon; brother Derryl Murphy; brother Gerry Murphy, wife, Sandy; brother Joel Black; brother Darren Black; and many nieces and nephews.

While Sherryl’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember Sherryl in a way that honors her spirit. We invite family and friends to join in a Celebration of Life Ceremony. The celebration of Sherryl’s life will be held Friday, June 17th from 1pm-3pm at the Pondview Pavilion in the Bicentennial Park located at 1505 E. Grand Blanc Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan.

Not sure what to say?

I'm just hearing of your passing. You were a wonderful mom to Tonie and her friends. I will always remember you in the kitchen sewing. I have great memories of you taking us to festivals and things. As a single mom I watched you provide my best friend with a good life you were a hard worker and always doing your best. I remember one birthday you played "I think we're alone now " by Tiffany and you danced in the living room playing it over with us girls. As I got older and my mom passed you'd...
