Miss Palmer, and she was always Miss Palmer, was my teacher in 1954 during the year that my mother died. Years later, she was the teacher for my daughter. When I saw her at a PTA meeting, she said she remembered me well, and wasn't that the year my mother had died? She was the best teacher I had in my early years. One in a million.

Miss Palmer was my 4th grade teacher in '65 and '66. I too remember her reading Charlotte's Web to us all those many years ago at Mt. Rose. Thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember my Grandmother, Myrtle Iler say nothing but wonderful things about Ms. Palmer and I will never forget shaking hands with her as I received my high school diploma.

I was first grade student of Mrs. Palmer in 1971. I count myself 1 in many who was fortunate enough to have her as my teacher. Mrs Palmer was indeed a Reno Treasure.

"She was in a class by herself. It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both."

The above quote from Charlotte's Web is a partially apt description for Miss Palmer herself. She was my fourth grade teacher, my favorite among all of my teachers, who read that book out loud to us, encouraged my painting a lamb on a Christmas mural that stretched across the back classroom wall, and oversaw...

I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Miss Palmer. Virginia was one of the finest school board members I had the pleasure of serving with during my terms of office. She set a high standard of ethical conduct, decision making and service for all of us. Her legacy will indeed live on in the many students she taught, teachers she mentored and some school administrators whose "feet were held to the fire" of accountability. A Reno legend, no other word for her - well, maybe "a treasure." I interviewed her at Irene's house for our Reno High 1959 reunion yearbook; she took stern note of my punctuality, and insisted I take her photo from her "better" side, as all fine ladies do. What a lady... She'll be fondly missed by thousands of local "kids"
