Virginia Lee Reiswig Obituary
Virginia Reiswig passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Friday, November 13,
2020 at the age of 89, exactly one month before her 90th birthday. She was a loving
wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she will be greatly missed.
Virginia Lee Ahlden Reiswig was born December 13, 1930 at home, to Dick and
Dortha Ahlden. She lived on her family dairy and wheat farm 3½ miles northeast of
Okarche, Oklahoma. She was baptized in December 1930 and confirmed at the age
of 14 at Saint John’s Lutheran Church, by Reverend Paul Hoyer, on April 2, 1944.
She had two sisters: Betty Jean Ford Mays and Minnie May Tarrant Ballard.
Virginia married Bill Joe Reiswig, her devoted husband, on April 9, 1950. They lived in
Kingfisher, and Bill worked at the Co-op Elevator as assistant manager. Bill and
Virginia had three children: Sandra, Jolee and Ken. They moved the family to
Drummond, OK, in 1955, where Virginia worked as a homemaker and later as an
operator for the Pioneer Telephone Company. She was also an active member of the
Zion Lutheran Church in Lahoma, the Drummond Study Club, as well as served on
the Garfield County Election Board. In 1973, they moved to El Reno and bought into
the Terminal Grain Elevator. Virginia volunteered at Park View Hospital in El Reno
as a “Pink Lady” for 20 years. Virginia was active in the Lutheran Women’s
Missionary League and other ladies organizations at the Trinity Lutheran Church in
El Reno, OK, where she also sang in the choir. Bill and Virginia belonged to several
card playing couples groups, a square dance group, a couples dinner/dance club in
Oklahoma City, and camped out and traveled with their good friends. She and Bill
traveled to all 50 states, Europe and other international destinations. Virginia was
an avid bicyclist and rode her bike daily well into her 80s. In July 2007, Bill and
Virginia moved to a townhome at the Baptist Retirement Village in Owasso, OK,
where they joined the Faith Lutheran Church. In 2015, Virginia moved from her
townhome to the Baptist Retirement Center’s Assisted Living. While there, she
volunteered to help with the food trays at mealtimes, loved participating in all of the
activities including chapel services, and most-of-all enjoyed playing cards every day
with her friends. Virginia lived independently in Assisted Living until July 2019,
when she moved to Oxford Glen Memory Care in Owasso, OK, and shortly thereafter,
to Prairie House Memory Care in Broken Arrow, OK. She went to her final home,
Heaven, on November 13, 2020, and what a homecoming it must have been! Her
final resting place is in the Kingfisher Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Bill.
Virginia loved Jesus and her family and friends. She had so much joy and acceptance
for everyone. She rarely had a bad day or complained, and was a tireless worker and
took pride in being a homemaker. Those who know her best will remember her
energy and unwavering joy in life, delicious Christmas sugar cookies, her festive
family holiday gatherings and her precious, childlike faith in Jesus.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Bill; her father and mother, Dick and
Dortha Ahlden; sisters Betty and Minnie; and daughter Jolee Reiswig.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Mahan, her son-in-law Terry Mahan; her
son, Ken Reiswig, her daughter-in-law Shelly Reiswig; grandchildren, Tara
Storjohann and husband, Nathan, Stacy Redwine and husband, Ryan, Mikyla (Kyla)
Pace and husband, Tim, and Chris Reiswig and wife, Jodi; great-grandchildren, Ian
Storjohann, Logan Storjohann, Brysan Redwine, Tillman Redwine, Holdan Redwine,
LeAnna Redwine, Warran Redwine, Daxan Redwine, Laytan Redwine, Makena Pace,
Rielle Pace, Levi Pace, Trevor Pace, Ellah Burton, Karis Burton, Rennic Burton, and
Baby Boy Reiswig (due on Grandma Virginia’s birthday this year).
The celebration of Virginia’s life will be held at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in
Okarche, OK (where she was also baptized, confirmed, and married) on Friday,
November 20, 2020 at 1pm. Officiating clergy will be Reverend Joel Heckmann.
Services are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service, Kingfisher. The family
requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Saint John’s Lutheran Church, PO
Box 66, Okarche, OK 73762.
