Not sure what to say?

It has been many decades since I worked briefly as an aide to Prof Virginia Tiger in the Summer of 1985 on the Newark Rutgers Campus. I cannot express how suddenly I realized that I missed many "shares" in her brilliant mind overseeing my research hunts to aid her scholarly writings. I always seem to be too late, to have been too quiet to open a conversation with such a brilliant woman! Peace to You!

Professor Tiger was one of my lit teachers in Newark. I just learned of her passing, and I am disappointed that I could `t tell her how I was the first woman in a few of my roles over the last 25 yrs, and have been quite successful partly because of her inspiration back then. We read so many books in her class about powerful, and sometime not, women. Proud to say I have fit both in the 25 years since we explored these ideas throughout literary history.

Virginia was a good friend during school and university in Toronto. I remember well her breathtaking dancing. Requiescat in pace, dear Virginia. Miranda Davies, March 2021.

I have only just learned of Professor Tiger's death with shock and sadness. She was a prominent scholar of Doris Lessing and a longtime active member of the Doris Lessing Society, where her presence and participation will be greatly missed. Sending my sincere condolences, however belated, to her family and friends. Rest In Peace, Virginia Tiger.

Virginia engaged me to look after her 5 year old son in New York city. I was awed by her style: gleaming copper pots in the kitchen of her brownstone apartment in the village, dashing up to Poughkeepsie in her Alpha Romeo on weekends and the classy gift of a bottle of wine for my 16th birthday. She encouraged me to go out and explore the many cultural sites of the city on my day off and advised me to wear long pants on the subway. An unforgettable flare in the life of a young girl from...

Virginia and I were undergraduates at Trinity College where we were in the same French class. We were both women of Canterbury in "Murder in the Cathedral
She was very bright, expressive and talented. I was pleased to see her at our College reunions over the years.

In memory of dear Virginia and our days together at BSS and Trinity College, notably your "transcendental experience" while slipping on a leaf - poetic, eccentric and fun.

As former managers of the Chelsea coop where Virginia lived for many years we want to say how very much we will miss her quiet, gentle presence. We enjoyed our conversations over the years, and always appreciated her support expressed at our coop meetings. We mourn her loss. Pamela and Tony Wolff

Dear Virginia,

Your dazzling intelligence was grounded in the warmth of your humanity.

I treasure the friendship that grew between us over the last decade, and will keep your soft, clear voice in my head in the years to come.

My smypathy to your family,

Linda Kline
